The State of Connecticut is allowing salons to re-open on Wednesday, May 20.  As Salon 293 east prepares to do this, our most important consideration is the health and safety of employees and clients.

Hair salons are high-contact environments that necessitate interaction in violation of social distancing rules; however, adherence to the rules developed by the State of Connecticut and OSHA can mitigate the risk this contact poses. Below are the guidelines that must be followed by both employees and clients, along with other mitigation efforts we are putting into place.

  • Employees and clients are asked to stay home if they have a fever, cold or flu like symptoms such as a sore throat, runny nose, chills or body aches.

  • Salon will be open at 50% capacity and by appointment only.

  • Chairs will be arranged so work areas are spaced at least 6ft apart, and you will be seated at least 6ft away from other clients at all times.

  • Face masks will be required for both employees and clients.  Employees will also be wearing face shields.

  • All workstations, including shampoo bowls, and styling tools/equipment will be thoroughly disinfected between clients.  In addition, styling tools will not be shared between stylists.

  • As always, smocks and towels will be washed with disinfectant between clients.

  • One bathroom will be open for clients, and it will be disinfected regularly.

  • Non-essential amenities have been removed including magazines, water and coffee machines.

  • The waiting area and coat room will also be closed.

  • Food is not permitted in the salon.

  • Contactless payment options will be in place including Apple Pay, Google Pay and credit cards with NFC technology can be bumped on the machine.

  • Signage will be placed throughout the salon to remind all employees and patrons of recommended CDC guidelines on how to protect yourself and others.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance.

  • Cleaning supplies will be available for employee and/or client use in the bathrooms and at the reception desk.

  • Ventilation within the salon will be increased by opening of the front and back doors whenever possible.

For Clients

Please be aware of the new procedures and protocols that will be in place for your next appointment:

  • Upon arrival, please call (203) 221-1061 or text reception@salon293east.com from your car to let us know you have arrived.  Your stylist will meet you at the front door and bring you into the salon since we do not have a waiting area.

  • Please arrive for your service alone due to the salon’s capacity restrictions.

  • Wear an over the ear face mask that completely covers your nose and mouth unless doing so would be contrary to your health or safety due to a medical condition.  Please also consider wearing gloves.

  • We will provide you with a clean bagged smock to change into.  Please place your personal items in the bag and keep it with you.

  • Disposable capes will be provided for haircuts.

  • Please limit the amount of personal items (e.g. handbags) you bring into the salon.  However, if you would like to have a beverage or read a magazine during your service, please bring it with you.

  • You will be asked to hold a towel over your face during your shampoo service.

  • The receptionist will no longer be able to make change. Please keep that in mind if you are leaving a cash gratuity for your stylist.

Regarding Employees

For your information, the following protocols have been established for all Salon 293 east employees:

  • Employees must stay home if they have a fever, cold and flu like symptoms such as a sore throat, runny nose, chills or body aches. They are asked daily if they are experiencing these symptoms when they report for work.

  • Employees must wear face shields and a face masks when servicing clients.   Gloves must also be worn, and changed between clients.

  • Employees are required to participate in a training program, including weekly refresher sessions, to ensure they thoroughly understand and adhere to the above protocols.

  • Shift start/stop times, break times, and lunchtimes have been staggered to minimize contact across employees.

  • Employees must wash their hands routinely (at minimum, between customers) using soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Per the State of Connecticut:  While these rules provide a way for hair salons to reopen as safely as possible, risks to customers and employees cannot be fully mitigated. Customers who choose to visit hair salons and barbershops during this time should be aware of potential risks. Individuals over the age of [65] or with other health conditions should not visit hair salons, but instead continue to stay home and stay safe.
